The Odisha Vigilance Department arrested a junior engineer from a power distribution company on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

According to an official statement, the Vigilance sleuths recovered and seized the entire bribe amount from the accused at the scene.

“Today, Sri Pradesh Prasad Nayak, Jr. Engineer, TPSODL, #Malkangiri, & Sri Bhanjakishor Swain (Private Person)have been apprehended by #Odisha #Vigilance while taking bribe Rs. 20,000/- from a Bricks Factory Owner in lieu of providing electricity connection to his Bricks Factory,” the Odisha Vigilance said in a post on X.

A case was registered against the two at the Koraput Vigilance Police Station. The charges have been filed under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

“In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS Case No 01/2026, U/s 7PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress,” it added.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the engineer had demanded the payment in exchange for facilitating an electricity connection for the complainant’s brick-manufacturing unit. The vigilance department said that further inquiries are ongoing to uncover more details regarding the transaction.
