A man from Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha allegedly murdered his wife following a financial dispute, police said on Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night at Balarampur village. Police identified the victim as Puspalata Swain.
Based on preliminary investigation, the conflict arose when the woman said she wanted to withdraw money received under a state government scheme from her bank account, which her husband opposed, a police officer said.
“The irate man killed his wife by stabbing her in the neck with a sharp object and also attempted suicide. Police officers reached the site and prevented the man from taking the extreme step,” the officer said.
The accused has been taken into custody, and a thorough investigation into the matter is currently in progress, the official added.
