In a major move to bolster urban local governance, the Odisha government on Monday notified the creation of 24 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) spanning 14 districts across the state.
The Housing and Urban Development Department issued the final notifications following a review of draft proposals, during which public feedback and objections were considered.
This expansion brings the total number of NACs in Odisha to 86.
The department has also issued draft notifications for the upgrade of five NACs to municipalities, along with details of villages that to be included within the urban local bodies, an official said.
An official stated that stakeholders have been requested to submit objections and suggestions through their respective district collectors within 30 days
Apart from 86 NACs, the state has 48 municipalities and five municipal corporations.
