Amid mounting reports of rising coronavirus infections in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the Odisha administration is on alert and is stringently monitoring the domestic COVID-19 situation, a state minister said on Tuesday.
Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling led a high-level review meeting with top healthcare officials of his department during the day to evaluate the prevailing pandemic situation across the country.
The minister stated that high vigilance has been mandated for all districts sharing borders with Andhra Pradesh, emphasising that the state’s medical infrastructure is fully prepared to handle any potential spike in cases.
“The state government is in continuous coordination with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Odisha will follow all guidelines issued by the Centre,” Mahaling said.
“Remain vigilant, follow all necessary health safety protocols, and rely only on official sources for information,” the health department said in a statement.
With the massive Ratha Yatra festival scheduled to commence in Puri on July 16, Mahaling noted that the government has stationed approximately 1,000 medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and paramedical workers, to manage healthcare needs, the minister added.
