The Odisha government is currently in discussions with High Court officials to establish fast-track courts throughout the state. This initiative aims to accelerate trials for cases related to crimes against women.

Speaking at a valedictory session of the Odisha Police Duty Meet in Cuttack today, state Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan affirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening the criminal justice system and guaranteeing speedy justice.

He emphasised that this commitment is particularly focused on women, children, and vulnerable sections of society.

The Minister stated that modernising the police department is a top priority for the state government. To ensure the quicker disposal of cases, the state has already taken steps to appoint additional public prosecutors in all districts.

The Police Duty Meet commenced on October 16, featuring a series of competitions that showcased policing skills. The event saw the participation of both police personnel and sniffer dogs.

Harichandan said the role of police is critical in achieving the vision of a developed nation and a prosperous Odisha.

DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, who also addressed the gathering, said mindset change and knowledge enhancement are vital for improving professional standards in the force.

“To upgrade skills, the Crime Branch will soon develop new training modules and conduct workshops across various ranges,” he said.
