The Odisha government is contemplating scaling up its vegetable cultivation plans this year, targeting over 50,000 acres for potato production alone, officials announced on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo chaired a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar to finalise the strategy.
Following the meeting, the Deputy CM directed officials to ensure quality potato seeds are provided to farmers well in advance. This move is designed to make the state self-reliant in potato production.
To meet the cultivation goal on more than 50,000 acres, approximately 3 lakh potato seeds are required, which will be provided by the Agriculture Department, the official said.
