The Odisha Police seized 128.3 kg of ganja in Koraput district while the illegal consignment was being smuggled to Andhra Pradesh, leading to the detention of two people, a senior official said on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team intercepted a vehicle near Tangini Chhak in Sunki Ghati, under the Sunki Police Station limits, on Friday and conducted a thorough search.
During the inspection, police uncovered a custom-built secret compartment inside the vehicle and recovered several packages containing suspected cannabis, according to Koraput Superintendent of Police Rohit Verma.
The operation was conducted as part of heightened surveillance and strict anti-narcotics enforcement through the Sunki Ghati corridor, the SP noted.
“Our team intercepted the goods vehicle and searched it. The team detected a secret chamber from which around 128.3 kg of ganja was recovered,” Verma stated.
Authorities have not yet officially estimated the market value of the confiscated contraband.
The vehicle’s driver and helper were taken into custody following the seizure, the officer added.
The seizure and formal legal proceedings were executed under the direct supervision of Pottangi Tahasildar-cum-Executive Magistrate Debendra Dharua.
