The government of Odisha has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Friday with Japan’s IHI Corporation and the ACME Group for a proposed investment of Rs 67,000 crore, designed to fast-track green industrialisation and technology transfer.
The agreements were signed during an interactive session between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and a high-level business delegation from Japan in Bhubaneswar.
This landmark progress carries profound economic weight, arriving precisely a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up crucial summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New Delhi, Majhi pointed out.
According to an official release, the collaboration underscores a shared commencement of the state government, the ACME Group, and IHI Corporation to to explore opportunities for establishing large-scale clean energy and industrial projects in Odisha, leveraging its resource strength, industrial ecosystem and policy support .
Majhi highlighted that Odisha is actively positioning itself to build one of the most expansive green hydrogen ecosystems in the country.
“After yesterday’s USD 11 billion agreement with Middle Eastern investors, today’s partnership with Far Eastern friend Japan has made the state’s industrial sector even brighter,” the CM said.
He further explained that Odisha has cleared the path for 12 major green ammonia and green hydrogen projects, which are set to inject over Rs 2 lakh crore into the local economy while generating over 36,000 job opportunities.
“Two green industrial corridors are being developed involving Paradip, Kendrapara and Gopalpur, which will make Odisha, referred to as the ‘steel capital’ of India, a global leader in green steel production,” Majhi asserted.
