In a significant blow to insurgent infrastructure, security forces discovered an illicit country-made weapon factory reportedly operated by Maoists in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, police said on Sunday.
According to police, the manufacturing unit was dismantled during a strategic tactical operation.
The BSF personnel stationed at Balliguda in the district uncovered the gun manufacturing unit while engaging in a combing operation in Panaspadar village under the Bamunigaon police limits, on Saturday.
Shubham Bhosale, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Balliguda, stated that the unit was identified during routine combing efforts in the region.
During the raid, BSF teams confiscated an assortment of finished single-barrel guns along with essential manufacturing components, including spare barrels, cutters, and other gun manufacturing parts from the site.
The authorities stated that combing operations in Daringbadi, Kotagarh, Tumudibandha, and Bamunigaon and other police station areas in Kandhamal district have been ramped up over the past week to apprehend hardcore Maoist Sukru and his associates, who belong to the KKBN (Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh) group, the police said.
Security personnel from the Special Operation Group (SOG), BSF, CRPF and other forces have been deployed to execute this anti-Maoist operation. The officials stated the operations are being carried out with high intensity to meet the strategic goal of neutralising Maoist presence in the area by the end of the current month.
