Coldwave conditions intensified across Odisha on Saturday as temperatures dropped below 10°C in several regions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The mercury plummeted to a chilling 4.6°C in G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district, making it the coldest place in the state.
Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded 5.1 degrees Celsius, while Phulbani and Daringbadi towns in Kandhamal district recorded 5.8 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively, as per IMD data.
Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar and neighbouring Cuttack recorded 14 and 13.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The IMD, meanwhile, has issued a warning that the coldwave conditions are expected to persist for at least another week.
Additionally, travellers and residents in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Kandhamal are advised to exercise caution as dense fog is predicted for Sunday and Monday mornings.
Shallow to moderate fog is also anticipated in Kalahandi district, the IMD said.
