The Odisha government will distribute the fifth instalment of Rs 5,000 to over one crore beneficiaries under the flagship Subhadra scheme on August 28, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced on Monday.
“We will release the financial assistance under the Subhadra scheme in Nayagarh on Raksha Bandhan (August 28),” Parida, who oversees the Women and Child Development Department, told media persons on the sidelines of the five-day training workshop for the second batch of newly recruited Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members.
Newly enrolled eligible applicants will get all five accumulated instalments together in a single lump-sum transfer on August 28, she clarified.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Subhadra scheme in Bhubaneswar on September 17, 2024. The welfare initiative aims to provide eligible women in the 21-60 age group with total financial aid of Rs 50,000 distributed over a five-year period spanning 2024–25 to 2028–29.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary receives Rs 10,000 annually through two equal disbursements of Rs 5,000 — one credited on International Women’s Day (March 8) and the second on Raksha Bandhan.
Speaking at the training session, Parida affirmed the state government’s dedication to creating a safe, protected, and supportive atmosphere for every child.
She highlighted the importance of coordinated and empathetic action among all stakeholders to safeguard the rights, dignity and overall welfare of children.
Advising the newly appointed CWC members to fulfill their duties with utmost sensitivity, devotion, and compassion, Parida maintained that the “best interest of the child” should remain at the centre of every decision and intervention.
The deputy chief minister also held interactions with the newly inducted CWC members, gaining insights into their field-level experiences, operational hurdles, and perspectives on child rights issues.
A total of 58 CWC members from 27 districts will undergo training under the programme.
