Police in Ganjam district have arrested two persons for allegedly cheating job aspirants out of Rs 15.50 lakh by promising them employment in government departments and banks in two separate cases, officials said on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as 61-year-old Shyam Sundar Patra from Nayagarh district and 42-year-old Panchanan Panda from Bhadrak district, according to police.
Both the men were taken into custody in connection with a case registered at the Gosaninuagaon police station in Berhampur.
Patra allegedly defrauded a job applicant in Berhampur of approximately Rs 15 lakh, whereas Panda is accused of taking Rs 50,000 from a candidate in Chhatrapur promising a job in a bank, police said.
Investigating officers recovered bank transaction receipts, a forged merit list of the Odisha State Staff Selection Commission and stamped agreement documents from Patra.
The officials further stated the authorities seized four mobile phones, 61 fake appointment letters, fraudulent identity cards, and related documents from the possession of the accused.
