Gold reserves totalling 1,462.73 kg have been discovered in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, the state’s Steel and Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena informed the Assembly on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The discovery follows an extensive survey conducted by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) across various regions of the Bangiriposhi Assembly constituency.
In a written response to a query from MLA Sanjali Murmu, Minister Jena revealed that the deposits were identified in the Madanashi-Kanjia area.
Alongside the gold, the survey also found substantial copper reserves amounting to 17.06 million tons in the Madanashi-Kanjia area, significantly enhancing the mineral potential of the district.
This find adds to the state’s growing list of precious metal assets.
The Minister reminded the House of a previous statement made on September 18, 2025, where he had announced gold discoveries totalling nearly 1,996 kg in two other districts. Those findings included 1,685 kg in the Adash area of Deogarh and 311.07 kg in the Gopur area of Keonjhar.
G2-level exploration has been completed at all three gold reserve mineral blocks, as per the statement.
Apart from the above three areas, it was estimated that the yellow metal is present in a scattered manner in different parts of the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Sambalpur, and Deogarh, he informed.
