In an effort to curb unregulated parking and traffic congestion, the Odisha government has proposed a new draft parking policy. This policy will introduce demand-based parking fees and aims to promote sustainable transportation options like walking, cycling, and public transit.
According to a statement issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department, the policy seeks to create a structured system for managing both on-street and off-street parking. This framework is designed to help local governments better manage parking, reduce traffic jams, and make cities more liveable.
The Odisha Urban Academy, under the Housing and Urban Development Department, recently held a consultative workshop to discuss the draft policy.

The deliberations focused on creating a comprehensive policy framework that will enable better management of parking, reduce congestion, and support safe and liveable cities.
Once the policy is finalised, it will serve as a guiding document for all of the state’s civic bodies to implement more efficient, transparent and sustainable parking systems, the statement said.
