Over 34.12 lakh farmers in Odisha received the 21st installment of the central government’s PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme on Wednesday, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the financial assistance of Rs 2,000 to farmers across the country from a program in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Around nine crore farmers across the country received a cumulative benefit of Rs 18,000 crore, the officials further said.

Chief Minister Majhi highlighted that the Centre provides an annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000 (in three installments) under PM-Kisan to help farmers purchase necessities like seeds, fertilisers and pesticides, among others.

The CM added that the Odisha state government supplements this with an additional Rs 4,000 (in two installments) through the CM-Kisan scheme.

Under the CM-Kisan scheme, Rs 2,991 crore has been disbursed to 51.54 lakh farmers during the current fiscal year, Majhi added.

Majhi also said that children of farmers benefiting from CM-Kisan receive scholarships for higher education, with 13,923 students getting scholarships worth Rs 53.67 crore in 2024-25.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to farmer empowerment, Majhi thanked PM Modi for selecting Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, and Nuapada districts for the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY).

Deputy CM Singh Deo, who also holds the Agriculture portfolio, stated that if the combined Rs 10,000 provided by the central and state governments is utilized effectively, Odisha will achieve farming success and poverty eradication.
