Odisha Police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a woman in Paradip.

Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Ankit Verma informed that the incident occurred between the night of February 22 and the morning of February 23.

He further said that the victim initially died after falling from the fourth floor of a building, leading to the registration of an unnatural death (UD) case on February 23.

As the investigation progressed, authorities linked the deceased to a missing person complaint previously filed at Tirtol Thana.

The investigation determined that the death was not accidental. The primary accused, identified as Shubham Kumar from Dhanbad in Bihar, allegedly raped the woman before throwing her off the building.

Further investigation shed light on the victim’s boyfriend, Somnath Ojha. On the night of February 22, the victim met Somnath, and the two reportedly had a quarrel over an issue.

Following the dispute, Somnath dropped her near a market area where she encountered Shubham, who was travelling toward Paradip. Since they were heading in the same direction, she joined him.

Shubham then took her to his residence, where the assault and subsequent murder took place. During the investigation, police also recovered adult video content from Shubham’s mobile phone, Verma said.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
