Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced that Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district is poised to emerge as a major national economic zone, emphasising its pivotal role in the state’s industrial future.

Majhi made the remark during a meeting to monitor the progress of setting up of the large industries in the coastal town.

The meeting delved into the strategic expansion of the Paradip Port, the development of advanced ship-building and repair facilities, and the large-scale industrial ventures spearheaded by Indian Oil and JSW, an official statement said.

The discussions also covered the blueprint for the proposed Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region, alongside the Paradip petrochemical project and a massive integrated steel plant, marking a comprehensive push for coastal industrialisation, it said.

During the meeting, CM Majhi directed the district administration to identify and resolve existing bottlenecks immediately to expedite the establishment of these units, while specifically mandating that the state’s youth be prioritised for employment opportunities generated by these transformative projects.
