Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the 127th episode of his radio program, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, on Sunday, praised Odisha’s Koraput Coffee, calling the hot beverage “truly delectable and indeed a pride of Odisha.”

Modi said, “You all know about my association with tea; but today I thought, why not discuss coffee in ‘Mann Ki Baat’! You may recall, last year we talked about Araku coffee in ‘Mann Ki Baat’.”

The Prime Minister mentioned that many people from Odisha had contacted him, urging him to discuss Koraput coffee in his program, similar to his previous mention of Araku coffee.

“Some time ago, many people from Odisha also shared their feelings with me regarding Koraput coffee. They wrote to me saying that Koraput coffee should also be discussed in ‘Mann Ki Baat’,” the PM stated.

Modi noted that the coffee not only “tastes amazing” but its cultivation is also benefiting the local population.

“Friends, I have been told that Koraput coffee tastes amazing, and not only that; besides the taste, coffee cultivation is also benefiting people,” the Prime Minister said.

He further said that there are people in Koraput who are cultivating coffee through their sheer passion.

“They were doing handsome jobs in the corporate world… but they liked coffee so much that they entered this field and are now successfully working in it. There also are many women whose lives have been pleasantly transformed by coffee,” he said.

“It has been rightly said: Koraput Coffee is truly delectable! This indeed is a pride of Odisha,” the PM said.

Stating that Indian coffee is becoming very popular all over the world, he mentioned the places in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, where coffee is being cultivated.

“The diversity of Indian coffee is truly remarkable,” Modi highlighted.

Besides, North-East is also progressing in coffee cultivation, which is further strengthening the identity of Indian coffee worldwide, that’s why coffee lovers say: India’s coffee is coffee at its finest. It is brewed in India and loved by the World, the PM added.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi both took to their X (formerly Twitter) handles to acknowledge the Prime Minister’s remarks.

Kambhampati said that Prime Minister’s appreciation of Koraput Coffee in his weekly Mann Ki Baat programme on Sunday will serve as a significant boost for the coffee cultivators of the region, many of whom are women farmers.

Taking to his X handle, Kambhampati wrote, “Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiji’s appreciation of Koraput Coffee in his #MannKiBaat programme is a major encouragement to Odisha’s coffee growers, especially the women farmers who have transformed Koraput into a symbol of empowerment and excellence. During my recent visit to Koraput, I had the privilege of visiting the coffee farms, interacting with the farmers and tasting their coffee. It was an exceptional blend of quality and passion.”

“I highly recommend everyone to experience Koraput Coffee and see how Odisha is emerging as a proud name in India’s coffee landscape,” he added.

CM Majhi stated that the mention of Koraput coffee by PM Modi is a moment of pride and joy for the state. He also added that Koraput Coffee is the symbol of Odisha’s diverse climate and harvest.
