Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Pahadpur, the village of President Droupadi Murmu’s in-laws in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, on June 20 to take part in various local events, officials announced on Saturday.

Situated roughly 20 kilometres from Rairangpur town, Pahadpur is the ancestral home of the President’s late husband, Shyam Charan Murmu. Rairangpur itself will serve as the venue for the principal state-level ceremony celebrating the second anniversary of the BJP-led government in Odisha.

President Droupadi Murmu, who was born in the Uparbeda village of the Rairangpur subdivision, wed Shyam Charan Murmu of Pahadpur. Tragically, her husband and two sons passed away before she took office as the President of India in 2022, and a family memorial has since been erected in their memory within the village.

According to officials, a massive public gathering is slated for June 20 at Dandabosh in Rairangpur. The high-profile event will be attended by President and the Prime Minister, alongside Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and several other prominent leaders.

The itinerary for the day includes the inauguration of multiple development projects, laying foundation stones for fresh infrastructure works, and addresses to the public by the attending dignitaries.

“Before the public event, the President and the prime minister will visit Pahadpur village, where they are slated to participate in local programmes and tour an exhibition showcasing regional achievements and initiatives,” an official statement issued by the state government said.

In the meantime, the state government has stepped up preparations for the VVIP visit to Mayurbhanj district.

President Murmu is scheduled to reach Rairangpur on June 19, whereas Prime Minister Modi will arrive the following day, June 20, to join the state-level celebrations.

In anticipation of the VVIP arrival, Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday, instructing departments to finalize all structural and logistical arrangements well before the deadline.

The meeting brought together senior officials from both the Centre and state levels, alongside key local stakeholders. Administrative and police heads from Mayurbhanj district—including the collector, eastern range IG, and superintendent of police—joined the discussions via video conferencing.

The meeting featured critical planning around security protocols, dignitary travel routes, helipad setups, aviation logistics, lodging, emergency healthcare, fire hazards, continuous water and electricity utilities, road repairs, cleanliness drives, network connectivity, and press arrangements.

Special Secretary, Home Department, Radha Kishan Sharma, presented a detailed status report on the preparations.

The Chief Secretary underscored the vital importance of flawless synergy between government branches and local district teams, demanding constant progress checks and strict timelines. She explicitly ordered authorities to uphold flawless security and logistical standards throughout the dual visit of the nation’s top leaders.

After the meeting, Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra said that approximately 150 platoons of police personnel, alongside top-ranking officers, would be mobilized to secure the venues.

Earlier on Thursday, Odisha Director General of Police Y B Khurania visited Mayurbhanj and reviewed preparations for the state government’s second-anniversary programme. He instructed police personnel to remain vigilant along inter-state border areas to ensure foolproof security.

The DGP also inspected the routes to be used by the President and the PM and reviewed arrangements at locations scheduled to be visited by Murmu during her two-day tour of Odisha, officials said.
