A police sub-inspector was taken into custody in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Sunday for allegedly subjecting his wife to physical and mental harassment, a police officer said.
Gananath Sethi, 36, who hails from Daspalla in Nayagarh district, was arrested based on a complaint lodged by his wife, according to Bhadrak Town police station inspector-in-charge Pravansu Sekhar Mishra.
According to the filed FIR, the couple had been experiencing marital discord for a while, and multiple mediation efforts by family members and well-wishers to settle the dispute amicably had proven unsuccessful.
Inspector Mishra noted that the woman alleged her husband continued physically and mentally abuse her despite the repeated attempts at reconciliation.
“The victim had also earlier lodged a complaint at Balugaon police station, which is in her native area. Their marriage was conducted according to Hindu rituals about a year ago. The woman alleged that her husband subjected her to both mental and physical harassment,” Mishra stated.
Following a preliminary investigation into the charges, police authorities arrested Sethi, who was posted at the Bhadrak Town police station.
Upon his arrest, he was produced before a local court, which subsequently rejected his bail petition and remanded him to judicial custody.
