President Droupadi Murmu, a native of Odisha, is scheduled to address the opening day of the fifth session of the Odisha Assembly on November 27, according to an official notification issued on Monday.

The winter session is provisionally set to run until December 31, including breaks and holidays, and will dedicate 19 days to official business and five days to private members’ business, including Bills and Resolutions, according to a provisional calendar issued by the Assembly secretariat.

The historic address by President Murmu will be the sole business conducted on the first day of the winter session of the Odisha Assembly.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who oversees the finance department, will be present during the first Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for the fiscal year 2025-26 on November 28.

Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, who had earlier indicated regarding Murmu’s visit, said the state government had requested the President to address the Assembly, to which she was a member and also a minister.

Murmu was elected as an MLA to the Odisha Assembly from the Rairangpur segment in 2000 and 2004, serving in the Naveen Patnaik ministry as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Transport (2000-2002) and later for Fisheries and Animal Resources (2002-2004). She was recognized as the best MLA in 2007 with the Nilakantha S Award.
