In a heart wrenching incident, Surgeons at VIMSAR , Burla, removed as many as 70 needles from the skull of a 19-year-old girl, who had complained of pain after being treated by a quack,
The quack ‘Tantrik’ had pierced multiple needles into the head of the girl, a native of
Bolangir district in a bid to cure her from a mysterious disease.
Reshma, daughter of Bishnu Behera, a resident of Ichhagaon under Sindhikela police limits, used to fall sick frequently but no treatment brought any relief. In 2021, as per the complaint, the family sought help of the accused quack, Tejraj Rana.
After Reshma’s family brought her to accused sorcerer, He performed a ritualistic procedure on her and in a bid to cure her from disease pierced syringe needles into Reshma’s head, leaving her unconscious.
when the girl complained of pain, the family said it came to know of the presence of needles and lodged a complaint with Kantabanji police
After the girl’s family discovered the needles and removed them, before taking her to Hospital for further treatment. A CT scan revealed over several more needles still lodged in her head.
“Three senior surgeons performed the surgery to retrieve the needles, which lasted one and a half hours and now the girl is out of danger,” Said Director of VIMSAR, Bhabagrahi Rath.
The 19-year-old will be under medical observation for a few more days and treated for minor infection. “Fortunately, the needles had not pierced the skull,” added Rath.
Bishnu behera has filled a complaint against Tejraj Rana of inserting needles inside skull of his daughter following which we have detained the accused.” Said Gourango Sahu SDPO Kantabanji
