Odisha’s State Transport Authority (STA) has directed all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to accept cash payments for e-challans issued for traffic violations, officials said.
This decision aims to resolve difficulties motorists have faced with the online payment system, specifically issues involving non-receipt of One-Time Passwords (OTP) and outdated mobile numbers linked to vehicle records.
Under the new guidelines, a designated officer at each RTO will be responsible for accepting e-challan payments at RTO offices.
Only the vehicle owner or the defaulter is authorised to make payment for active e-challan dues, a transport department officer said.
Upon the payment, a manual money receipt will be issued, and the digital record will be updated accordingly. The money received for e-challan will be deposited in the government treasury on the next working day, he said.
For online payments, one can use the transport department (mParivahan) application and https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/.
