Cuttack and several regions of Odisha were placed under high alert following an anonymous e-mail threatening to target court buildings across the state. In a swift response, security agencies launched comprehensive sweeps and deployed specialised units to safeguard the premises and prevent any untoward incident.

Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, Deputy Commissioner of Police, on Thursday, stated that bomb disposal units, dog squads, and additional security teams were mobilised in accordance with standard operating procedures.

“A message was received from a security point of view, and since it is a sensitive matter, standard security drills are being carried out as per protocol to thoroughly check the premises. Security agencies are continuing inspections as part of the drill,” the DCP said, noting that authorities are still assessing the situation and further details were awaited as authorities assessed the threat.

Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania stated that the police force has taken coginzance of the anonymous e-mail received on Wednesday and has launched a full-scale investigation.

“As a precautionary measure, police checks and enhanced security arrangements have been put in place at all concerned locations. The situation is under close monitoring,” the DGP stated while urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.

Promptly after the reception of the threat e-mail, personnel and visitors were evacuated from the Odisha High Court and various district courts’ premises to facilitate security sweeps. The incident has left the legal community on edge, with many advocates expressing serious concerns over existing safety protocols.
