The self-enumeration facility for Census 2027 was launched in Odisha on Wednesday, according to government officials.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati was among the first to complete his self-enumeration online, using the occasion to encourage citizens to participate and ensure that every household in the state is accurately represented.

In a video message, the governor said, “On the commencement of Census 2027, I extend my greetings to the people of Odisha. As the first citizen of Odisha, I have fulfilled my duty by completing my self-enumeration, and I urge each one of you to do the same.”

He further said the Census, an important national exercise, forms the foundation for planning and development.

“Therefore, your participation in the house listing phase will ensure that every household is counted and represented. Let’s all come together to make this Census accurate, inclusive and successful,” he added.

Officials further said that the digital provision for self-enumeration opened on Wednesday and will remain accessible to the public until midnight on April 15, ahead of physical data collection.

Citizens can submit their household information directly through the dedicated self-enumeration portal at https://e.census.gov.in/, they said.

This initiative marks India’s transition to its first-ever digital census, introducing self-enumeration as a primary feature. However, officials noted that any data submitted online will undergo subsequent verification by designated enumerators during their scheduled field visits.

The first phase of the census, focusing on house listing operations, is set to begin across all 30 districts of Odisha on April 16 and conclude on May 15, as previously announced by Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, the Director of Census Operations in Odisha.

Over 1 lakh trained enumerators and 17,282 supervisors will visit households and collect data during the one month.
The second phase, or the primary population enumeration phase, will be carried out from February 9 to February 28, 2027, as per the schedule.
