Sambalpur- A Special POCSO court has sentenced a man to death for rape and murder of a minor girl in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
The court found Prashant Baghar (40) guilty of raping and killing a minor girl in his village at Kasada under Jamankira police limits.
As per the case, the convict, Prashant Baghra of a village under Jamankira police station in the district, committed the crime in March, 2022.
The court also directed Baghar to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh. In case of default of payment, he would undergo further one-year imprisonment, Public Prosecutor Santosh Panda said.
Prashant had raped the minor girl and hacked her to death. He had roamed around his village with her severed head, Some villagers saw Prashant , while he was cleaning the head of the victim at the borewell, Shocked by the sight, villagers souted at him and chased following which Baghara got panicked and threw the severed head before running away from the spot.
The villagers had chased, captured and tied him up, and informed the police. A team from Jamankira police station rushed to the village and arrested him.
