Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Friday, announced the regularisation of services for over 13,000 teachers who were appointed under various schemes.
The CM, while addressing the State-Level Teachers’ Day Celebration and Chief Minister’s Education Award Ceremony in Bhubaneswar today, also announced that 45,000 more teachers will be recruited over the next three years.
CM Majhi also introduced the ‘Padhiba, Gadhiba Odisha Abhiyan’ initiative and launched the Odisha Curriculum Framework for School Education-2025, which is based on the National Education Policy.
To combat high dropout rates among tribal students, the state government has extended the midday meal scheme to Class 10 and implemented the ‘Madho Singh Haat Kharcha’ scheme, providing a one-time incentive of Rs 5,000 to ST students enrolling in Classes 9 and 11.
The state government had launched the scheme after a survey revealed that 24 per cent tribal students dropout from schools before reaching classes 9 and 10.
In order to provide quality education to students, Majhi said the state government has appointed around 20,000 teachers, including 13,000 under various schemes, in the past 15 months and another 45,000 teachers will be recruited in next three years.
“The to-be-appointed 45,000 teachers will get regular posting and not under any scheme,” the chief minister stated.
During the event, Majhi felicitated teachers and institutions that have made notable contributions to the education sector. Jharsuguda district was awarded Rs 3 crore for securing the top position in the Chief Minister’s Education Award programme, followed by Khurda and Jagatsinghpur districts, which were awarded Rs 2 crore and Rs 1 crore, respectively. In total, 70 teachers, along District Education Officers, three District Education Training Institutes, and ten Block Education Officers were honoured at the event. Similarly, two tribal students who cleared the NEET exam were also felicitated.

The CM also launched a coffee table book on the occasion of the first year of Shikrut Odisha
School and Mass Education Minister Nityanand Gond, who also attended the event, praised the role of teachers in shaping the society and lauded the Guru-Sishya tradition.
While the government celebrated these initiatives, a group of teachers from different aided schools and colleges staged a protest near the Assembly building, demanding retirement benefits like pensions.
Minister Gond acknowledged their demands, stating, “The government is sympathetic towards teachers’ demands. Give us some time to take up their issues.”
The opposition BJD was quick to criticize the government for allegedly not giving appointments to new teachers, with MLA Sarada Jena claiming that the teachers appointed in the past year were actually selected under the previous BJD administration.
Jena stated, “The teachers said to have been appointed in the past year were actually selected under the previous BJD government. This government has not given jobs to any new teacher on its own,” claimed Jena
