Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday advised students to concentrate completely on their studies rather than losing precious time to social media or getting misled by false information.
The Chief Minister said this while speaking at the state-level Teachers’ Day function organised at the Secondary Board High School in Kataka.
Interacting with the students at the event, Majhi encouraged them to keep their primary focus on shaping their careers and stay away from distractions that could hamper their success.
During his speech, the Chief Minister remarked, “As students, your foremost duty is to study diligently, acquire skills, and contribute to both personal and national development. This is the core purpose of our education system. Therefore, stay away from anything that has the potential to create obstacles in building your career.”
Focusing on the student-teacher relationship, the Chief Minister noted that this connection should adapt to be more approachable today, while urging students to aim for top achievements by honouring the guidance of their parents and teachers.
“Education is not merely about imparting knowledge; it is a great process of building human character, and teachers have been shouldering this great responsibility,” the Chief Minister said.
Emphasizing the deep importance of the mentor-disciple relationship, he paid tribute to former Indian President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, adding that the guru-shishya bond is a unique cornerstone of Indian culture.
Majhi pointed out that throughout history – from Lord Rama and Lord Krishna to Chandragupta Maurya and Swami Vivekananda – teachers have played a pivotal role in guiding great personalities.
“Even in today’s era, a great personality like ‘Missile Man’ Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, despite holding the nation’s highest office, considered it an immense matter of pride to identify himself first as a teacher,” the Chief Minister stated.

Discussing state reforms under the ‘KG to PG’ free education scheme, he pointed out that Odisha stands as the first state nationwide to provide free education spanning from Shishu Vatika all the way to postgraduate programs.
He added that 2,200 top-tier ‘Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Primary Schools’ are being built with an investment of Rs 12,000 crore, alongside the establishment of 45,000 Shishu Vatika centers for early childhood learning.
Majhi reaffirmed his government’s goal to provide mid-day meal to IX and X grade students, distribute free textbooks, roll out the ‘Shaheed Madho Singh Haath Kharcha Yojana’ to support tribal pupils, and fill 45,000 teacher posts over the next three years.
The Chief Minister made a wider appeal to teachers, students, alumni, and public to combine their talents, skills, and cooperation toward building a prosperous, strong, and self-reliant Odisha.
