The death toll of workers from Odisha in the explosion at the chemical factory of Sigachi Industries in the Pashamylaram Industrial Area in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, on June 30 rose to nine with the authorities confirming the identity of four more people using DNA-based analysis, an official informed on Sunday.

The latest victim has been identified as Purna Chandra Sahu, a native of Sukarpada in Cuttack district, according to Pritish Panda, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Directorate of Odisha Parivaar.

The other eight people from Odisha have been identified as Rajnala Jagan Mohan of Chhatrapur in Ganjam, Lagnajeet Duari of Paikarapur in Cuttack’s Tigiria, Manoj Rout of Parbatipur in Balasore’s Simulia, Dolagobinda Sahu of Erabanka in Jajpur’s Dharmasala, Chaita Bhadra and Ramesh Gauda of Nabarangpur, Siddharth Gouda of Mahanadapur in Ganjam and Prasant Mohapatra of Berhampur in Ganjam.

The bodies of all deceased persons have been handed over to their family members, the officer said.

Panda, who have been sent to the accident site with other state government officials for the monitoring the relief and medical operations in Telangana, further said that four persons were injured in the blast of which two were discharged after treatment while another two are undergoing treatment.

Among the injured persons, Samir Padhi from Ganjam district, who was in ICU with 35 per cent burn injuries, has been recovering fast and he is now brought out from the ICU, the officer said.

A total of 14 persons from Odisha were affected by the powerful blast at Sigachi Industries’ pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram.

Earlier on Friday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of Odia workers who lost their lives in the explosion. The assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
