A 14-year-old boy working as a ragpicker tragically lost his life after reportedly slipping and falling into a canal while gathering plastic bottles in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, police officials stated.
The unfortunate mishap occurred at approximately 3:30 PM on Thursday in the Kajala locality.
The teenager was retrieved from the water roughly half an hour later and rushed to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to a police official.
“The identity of the deceased teenager has not been established yet. His body has been transferred to the mortuary at the district headquarters hospital for an autopsy,” stated Suvendu Sahoo, the inspector-in-charge of the Kendrapara Town police station.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway, Sahoo added.
