A tragic accident in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday claimed the lives of three members of a family, including an 11-year-old girl, after a speeding truck struck their motorcycle.

The accident took place on the National Highway 40 at Jagmohanpur chhak under the Telkoi Police Station limits, when the collision took place between the two-wheeler and the commercial vehicle, a senior officer said.

The family, belonging to Bahadapashi village in the neighboring Deogarh district, was on their way to drop their daughter off at the Ashram School in the Kanjipani area when the collision occurred.

Following the crash, the truck managed to flee the spot, but police later intercepted the vehicle near the Janasanpur toll gate, the police officer said.

The truck was seized, though the driver managed to escape. In response, local residents blocked the highway for a brief period, demanding a permanent solution to the frequent road accidents in the area.
