An under-trial prisoner escaped from the Soro sub-jail in Balasore district of Odisha, police reported on Wednesday.
The under-trial prisoner, identified as Deepak Ray (30) from Dhanbad in Jharkhand. He was arrested on October 19 on a theft charge, informed sub-jailer Bailochan Das.
Das further stated that Ray escaped from the sub-jail on Tuesday evening by jumping the prison wall with the help of a blanket.
The prison staff detected the missing prisoner during the roll call conducted after dinner, Das added.
The sub-jailer has filed a complaint with the police in this regard, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend Ray, said police.
Earlier, on October 2, two under-trial prisoners (UTPs), residents of Bihar, had escaped from the high-security Choudwar Circle Jail in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
