The police arrested a woman and her lover on Monday for alleged murder of his friend in a hotel room in Odisha’s Balasore Town four days ago.
In an official statement, authorities revealed that the woman and her partner strangled the 30-year-old victim following a violent altercation that broke out after a drinking session in the hotel room, after which they fled the scene.
The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Ram Chandra Singh and 27-year-old Jemamani Singh, while the victim was identified as Akash Mohanta.
According to the police, Akash and Ram Chandra had travelled from Badjambani village in Mayurbhanj district by motorcycle, picking up Jemamani from Betnati along the way. The trio checked into a hotel in Balasore town on December 25.
The statement stated that while Akash submitted a genuine Aadhaar card at the hotel, the identification documents provided by Ram Chandra and Jemamani were found to be fake.
All three persons were married and Jemamani, a mother of two children, had reportedly been living separately from her husband.
Police investigations revealed that Akash and Ram Chandra consumed alcohol in the hotel room on the night of Christmas, December 25. A dispute erupted when Akash allegedly demanded sexual favours from Jemamani, which was resisted by her lover, resulting in a physical confrontation.
“Ram Chandra and Jemamani strangulated Akash to death. They were absconding after leaving the body of Akash Mohanta in the hotel room. They were arrested,” the police said in a statement.
Balasore city DSP Nirmala Gochayat stated that Ram Chandra and Jemamani were picked up from Mayurbhanj and Jajpur, respectively.
