Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday inaugurated several infrastructure projects, including 76 new veterinary hospitals and four animal aid centres, built for Rs 100 crore to strengthen the state’s animal resources sector. These projects were launched during a state-level event marking World Veterinary Day.
On the same occasion, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with six public sector undertakings to facilitate the construction of an additional 219 veterinary hospitals and diagnostic laboratories across the state.
Under the MoU, a new state-level molecular laboratory will be set in Phulanakhara in Cuttack, with an estimated investment of Rs 10 crore. Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced an allocation of Rs 6 crore to upgrade the state food laboratory, specifically to enhance the quality testing of animal feed.

Emphasizing the state government’s commitment to the livestock and fisheries industries, Majhi highlighted recent advancements in the sector. He also inaugurated the new marketing centre dedicated to brown eggs and the indigenous ‘Aseel’ variety of chicken.
To support the welfare and productivity of the fishing community, the Chief Minister inaugurated a new fish landing centre in Kasiya in Bhadrak district, and unveiled the completed improvement works for the Dhamra Fish Port, a project developed at an investment of Rs 50 crore.
In his speech at the event, the CM said that veterinarians treat animals that cannot speak.
“Our Veterinary Doctors are like gods for living creatures. Traditional farming alone is not enough to increase the income of farmers in Odisha. It is necessary to take up allied agriculture like fish farming, cow husbandry, poultry farming, goat and sheep farming. It will enable farmers to multiply their income,” Majhi said.
Majhi highlighted the reach of the state’s welfare initiatives, noting that approximately 15 lakh dairy farmers are currently benefiting from the ‘Kamdhenu Yojana,’ a scheme launched at Rs 1,423 crore investment.
