All 4 Accused in rape and Murder of Hyd Vet Killed In Police Encounter, Families Of Slain Accused Question Police Action

All four accused in Telangana veterinarian’s Priyanka Reddy rape and murder case were killed in an encounter on Friday. As they tried to escape during investigations at the same spot where the woman’s body was found, the police said on Friday.

As per reports, the accused were killed at 5:45- 6:15 AM today, when they allegedly snatched weapons from the police and tried to escape from the Chatanpally near Shadnagar, about 50 km from Hyderabad.

According to officials, the accused were taken to the crime scene for recreation of the incident when they tried to escape. The police officers had to then open fire, they said. The men were rushed to a hospital. However, they succumbed to bullet injuries.

The killing of the four accused in the Hyderabad veterinarian’s gang-rape and murder has shocked their families, who questioned the police action of gunning them down in an ‘encounter’ even before a trial.

The families of the two truck drivers and two cleaners said they would not have been upset if they had been punished by the court after a fair trial.

Odisha Law Minister Pratap Jena said: “I don’t know what the Human Rights Commission or other orgnaisations will say, but stern action should be taken against the rapists. In several countries, the rapists are being shot dead or decapitated in full public view. In India too, we should have stringent punishment for such culprits. In my view, the Hyderabad police action was apt and they have been punished. He also vouched for same fate for rapist in Odisha
