Supreme Court relief for Suspended MLA Prashant Jagdev, Gets Conditional Bail

The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to BJD’s suspended Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev who had allegedly rammed his SUV into a crowd injuring several people, including few police personnel outside the Banpur block office in Khordha district on March 12 this year.

The MLA was promptly suspended from ruling BJD following the brawl and for his unruly behaviour, the ruling BJD then distanced itself for his unsavoury act.

The apex court granted bail on the conditions that Jagdev cannot go to his assembly constituency for a year. He can only visit with Collector’s permission. The court has also ordered that Jagdev cannot conduct any meeting(s) with more than five persons at a time.

The lower court will add further bail conditions, the SC added.

Following the incident that had left 22 persons, including seven cops, injured. The irate mob had dragged and thrashed Jagadev and vandalised his car.

The MLA has been booked under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder). He is also accused of obstructing officers from discharging their duty.
