Odisha Rath Yatra 2018: Chariot-Pulling Begins In Puri

Puri: Soon after the unique ‘Chhera Pahanra’ was performed by Gajapati Maharaja Dibya Singhdeb, the ‘Charamala’ (wood plank-laden staircase) of the respective three chariots ‘Taladhwaja’, ‘Darpadalana’ and ‘Nandighosha’ were dismantled and horses were yoked to them in a bid to get set and roll down the ‘Bada Danda’ (Grand Road) between Srimandir and Gundicha Temple.

Being the elder brother, Lord Balabhadra’s chariot ‘Taladhwaja’ stole the march as per the age-old custom since He pilots and paves the path for His loving sister Devi Subhadra and flamboyant younger brother Lord Jagannath.

Accordingly, Devi Subhadra’s chariot ‘Darapadalana’, also seated by Lord Sudarshan followed the suit as it was pulled by the devotees close on the heels of ‘Taladhwaja’.

The darling of the crowd Lord Jagannath’s chariot ‘Nandighosha’, being the centre of attraction, was pulled at last but was not the least juggernaut to roll down the Grand Road for the annual nine-day sojourn at Mausi Maa Temple (Gundicha Temple).
