Malkangiri:Road communication between Malkangiri-Kalimela was severely affected and people were left marooned,Commuters were left stranded on Sunday as two-feet water flowed over a bridge near Kankarkonda following incessant rain in Malkangiri district.
After several hours, locals had no option left and began waddling through the water. Despite the fear of slipping and being swept away, the villagers braved the strong current and crossed the bridge.
Water bodies in the southern Odisha district have begun to swell at many places following incessant rain for the past three days, triggering a flash-flood like situation.
The Regional Meteorological Department predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Balangir districts
Meanwhile A cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, which extends up to 7.6km above mean sea level having a tilt of southwestwards with height, and under its influence a low pressure area is likely to form during next 2-3 days,” the regional office of India Meteorological Office said
