Cuttack:Senior Judge of Orissa High Court, Sanju Panda was today appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa HC by the President of India.
After the retirement of Justice KS Javeri as the Chief Justice of Orissa HC, Panda was appointed as the acting Chief Justice. She is the first woman judge to be appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa HC
The notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice read
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Kumari Justice Sanju Panda, senior-most Judge of the Orissa High Court, to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of the High Court with effect from 05th January, 2020 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court.”
Panda having 21 years experience in Service, Civil, Criminal, Company and Constitutional matter, she had started practice in Orissa High Court under the guidance of her father Late Gourhari Panda (Retd. District Judge).
She has conducted cases on behalf of State as Additional Standing Counsel from 1994 to 1995, Standing Counsel for Vigilance (Special Court) in High Court from 1995 to 1996, Additional Standing Counsel for Commercial Tax from 2001 to 2003, Counsel for S.B.I., Utkal University and some of the Public Sector undertaking Corporations.
Justice Panda had been elevated as Judge of the Orissa High Court on March 1, 2007.
