Heavy Rain Lashes Odisha, Goods wagon derail, Train cancelled, Schools Closed

Incessant rain in past 24 hours created havoc across south-interior districts of Odisha with several rivers flowing above the danger marks.

Heavy rain causing flood situation and washing of mud and ballasts from railway track between Doikalu and Ambodala stations in Rayagada-Titilagarh railway section, the following trains have been affected. Some trains in Titilagarh-Rayagada route have been diverted, cancelled, partially cancelled and rescheduled.

A goods train with 59 wagons travelling to Vedanta in Ambodala (AMB) Railway Station was badly affectedly as three of its wagons derailed. Following the incident, the railways officials rushed to the site with a relief train.

In Malkangiri District, the water is flowing over low lying bridges at korukonda,kankarkonda,MV-37,pangam,MV-90,Kanyashram and Poteru has disrupted road communication to Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh

In Rayagada district, Bansadhara river has been flowing at a height of 84.45 metres against the danger level at 83 metres at Gunupur.Road communication to three villages was disrupted after a bridge between Malisiripur and Biriguda was swept away

In Gajapati District, the flood water of Bansadhara was flowing at a height of 55.40 metres against the Danger level of 54.60 metres at Kashinagar,Due to Flooding,18 villages of Kasinagar block have been cut off

In Kandhamal district, a temporary diversion on NH-59 at Baliguda was swept away in Flash Floods, As a result Roads communication to Koraput,Kalahandi and rayagada got disrupted

In Koraput district, Machhkund Dam opened 3 out of 8 gates to release 5000 cusecs of water per seconds after water level was nearing Danger Level of 2590 feet
